Raw Hair vs Virgin Hair vs Remy Hair: What Do These Terms Really Mean?

Raw Hair vs Virgin Hair vs Remy Hair: What Do These Terms Really Mean?

If you've ever shopped for hair extensions online, you've probably seen terms like Raw Hair, Virgin Hair, Remy Hair, Single Drawn, and Double Drawn.

I know it can sound like people are speaking a completely different language.

The problem is that many shoppers are paying premium prices without actually understanding what these terms mean.

As a Master Cosmetologist who has worked with hair extensions for years, I want to simplify it for you.

Let's break it down.

What Is Raw Hair?

Raw hair is hair that has been cut directly from one donor and then cleaned and wefted / or not....you can also purchase it in the loose form with no wefting.

That's it.

No coloring.

No texture processing.

No chemical alteration.

No shortcuts.

Because raw hair is completely unprocessed, it is often one of the most expensive types of hair available.

Many clients love raw hair because it behaves similarly to natural hair and can last for years with proper care.

However, raw hair isn't always necessary for every client.

Sometimes people hear the term "raw" and assume it automatically means better.

Not always.

The quality of the sourcing still matters.

What Is Virgin Hair?

Virgin hair is hair that has not been chemically processed or colored.

Unlike raw hair, virgin hair can be sourced from multiple donors and then carefully matched together. In most cases , it is steam treated to create the curl pattern desired.

I'm here to tell you ,that S-pattern in your body wave hair bundle dose'nt

Virgin hair is still considered premium quality hair and is often more affordable than raw hair.

Many luxury hair extension companies sell high-quality virgin hair because it offers beautiful results while remaining more consistent in texture and appearance.

What Is Remy Hair?

This is where many people get confused.

Remy hair is not a texture.

Remy refers to the direction of the hair cuticles.

With Remy hair, all strands are aligned in the same direction from root to end.

This helps reduce tangling and matting while creating a smoother appearance.

Remy hair can be:

  • Straight

  • Body Wave

  • Curly

  • Kinky Curly

  • Kinky Straight

Remy hair can also be colored or texture processed while still maintaining cuticle alignment.

When someone says a bundle is Remy, they're talking about cuticle direction—not texture.

Clock that.

Single Drawn vs Double Drawn Hair

Now let's talk about fullness.

Single Drawn Hair

Single drawn hair creates a more natural look.

The bundle is fuller near the top and gradually tapers toward the ends.

This mimics the way natural hair grows from your scalp.

Many clients prefer single drawn hair because it looks soft, realistic, and effortless.

Double Drawn Hair

Double drawn hair is thicker from top to bottom.

Shorter hairs are removed during manufacturing so the bundle maintains maximum density all the way through the ends.

This creates that luxury, full, blunt finish many clients love.

Double drawn hair is typically more expensive because more hair is required to create each bundle.

If your goal is maximum glamour and fullness, double drawn hair is usually the winner.

Which One Should You Choose?

Choose Raw Hair if:

  • You want the most natural, minimally processed option.

  • Budget is less of a concern.

  • You want maximum longevity.

Choose Virgin Hair if:

  • You want luxury quality.

  • You want consistency.

  • You want beautiful hair without paying raw hair prices.

Choose Remy Hair if:

  • You want smooth, manageable hair.

  • You want less tangling.

  • You want aligned cuticles.

Choose Double Drawn Hair if:

  • You love density.

  • You want thick ends.

  • You want hair that looks like it got a trust fund of it own...RICH!!!.

Choose Single Drawn Hair if:

  • You want a more natural finish.

  • You prefer softer tapering at the ends.

  • You want the look of naturally full hair.
