The Life of a Celebrity Hairstylist: What Really Happens Behind the Scenes

From television sets to live events, here's what most people never see.

Heyyy Beautiful,

One of the questions I get asked all the time is:

"What's it like working with celebrities?"

Most people imagine red carpets, VIP parties, backstage passes, and glamorous events.

And while those moments do exist...

The truth is, a celebrity hairstylist's job is much more about preparation, professionalism, and performance than it is about glamour.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work on television productions, live events, celebrity appearances, and major projects, including work for  the grammy awards, Revolt TV, TLC Network, Sony, and productions surrounding Super Bowl LVIII right here in Las Vegas.

And let me tell you...

What happens behind the scenes is very different from what most people think.

Here are a couple of photos:

Your Hair Kit Becomes Your Survival Kit

One thing I've learned is that you have to be prepared for absolutely everything.

A professional set stylist doesn't just bring a comb and some hairspray.

My kit often contains:

Bobby pins ,Hair pins ,Edge control ,Hair spray ,Rat tail combs ,Brushes ,Extension hair ,Fashion tape, tooth brush,Safety pins, Nail glue ,Scissors, Clips, Emergency beauty supplies..tylenol and wet wet wipes etc...😆

Because once production starts, there is no running to the beauty supply store or cvs.

If something goes wrong, you're expected to solve the problem immediately.

The show must go on.

Timing Is Everything

One of the biggest differences between salon work and set work is timing.

In the salon, appointments may occasionally run behind schedule.

On a production set?

That cannot happen.

If hair is scheduled to be finished at 11:30 a.m., it must be finished at 11:30 a.m.

Not 11:31.

Not 11:32.

Every department is working on a timeline.

Hair.

Makeup.

Wardrobe.

Production.

Photography.

Lighting.

Everyone is connected.

If one department falls behind, the entire production can be affected.

That's why punctuality, efficiency, and preparation are absolutely critical.

Professional First. Friendly Second.

Another misconception people have is that working with celebrities means you're automatically becoming friends.

And while some celebrities are incredibly kind and down-to-earth, I've always believed in one important rule:

Be professional first. Friendly second.

At the end of the day, you're there to do a job.

The network hired you.

The production company hired you.

Your reputation is built on your professionalism, your reliability, and your ability to deliver under pressure.

If genuine friendships develop naturally, that's wonderful.

But your first responsibility is always the work.

Focus Matters

Television sets move quickly .

Live events move quickly.

I've learned that too much talking, too much socializing, or too much fooling around can slow down the process.

When cameras are rolling and schedules are tight, focus becomes one of your greatest assets.

The best stylists aren't always the loudest people in the room.

They're often the professionals quietly getting the job done.

Every Client Deserves Celebrity Treatment

One thing working on television and production sets taught me is that every client deserves excellence.

Whether I'm working on a television production, preparing talent for an event, or working with a client inside my salon suite, my goal remains the same:

To help women look and feel their absolute best.

Every woman deserves professionalism, attention to detail and to feel beautiful.

You don't have to be on television to receive exceptional service.

What Celebrity Styling Taught Me

Working behind the scenes taught me valuable lessons that I carry into my business every single day:

  • Be prepared.

  • Be punctual.

  • Stay professional.

  • Focus on solutions.

  • Respect everyone's time.

  • Never stop learning.

  • Treat every client like they matter.

Because they do.

The Salon Cass Takeaway

People often think the most important part of celebrity hairstyling is creating beautiful hair.

But honestly?

The most important part is earning trust with the networks.

Being dependable, reliable and trustworthy.

Showing up prepared. and down for whateva'

Remaining professional under pressure, because baby there will definitely be some pressure.

And consistently delivering your best work, don't nitpick that bang...spray it in place and let them roll....

Those lessons have served me well both on set and behind the chair.

And they're lessons I'll carry with me for the rest of my career.

With Love,
